REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Engine Front Cover

Removal

  1. Remove the engine. Refer to Engine — Automatic Transmission or Engine — Manual Transmission in the Removal and Installation portion of this section.

  1. Remove the water pump (8501). Refer to Water Pump in the Removal and Installation portion of this section.

  1. Remove the crankshaft vibration damper (6316). Refer to Crankshaft Damper in the Removal and Installation portion of this section.

  1. Remove the oil pan (6675) and oil pump screen cover and tube (6622).

  1. Remove the four engine front cover bolts.

  1. Remove the engine front cover (6019) and the two engine front cover gaskets (6020).

  1. Clean the engine front cover, oil pan and cylinder block mating surfaces.

Installation

  1. NOTE: Silicone Rubber sealant starts to set up after being exposed to air. Assembly must be completed within 15 minutes of sealant application.

    Install the two new engine front cover gaskets and apply Silicone Rubber F5TZ-19G204-AB or equivalent meeting Navistar specification D15-5012 Type 2 to the sealing grooves in the engine front cover.

  1. Install the engine front cover and the four retaining bolts finger-tight.

  1. Install the water pump.

  1. Tighten the four engine front cover bolts to 20 Nm (15 lb-ft).

  1. Install the oil pan and oil pump screen cover and tube.

  1. Install the crankshaft vibration damper.

  1. Install the engine.
