REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Axle Pivot Bracket, F-150, F-250, F-350

Removal

  1. Remove the front spring. Refer to Spring, Coil, in the Removal and Installation portion of this section.

  1. Remove the axle pivot nut and bolt. Pull the pivot end of the axle down and out of the bracket.

  1. Remove the four attaching nuts and bolts and remove the axle pivot bracket.

Installation

  1. NOTE: The two rearward vertical bolts must be installed with the bolt heads next to the engine oil pan to maintain the required clearance. The bolt and retainer assembly must be installed with the bolt heads on the inside surface of the pivot bracket.

    Position the axle pivot bracket to the front crossmember (5019). Loosely install the bolts and retainer nuts. Do not tighten at this time.

  1. To obtain correct positioning of the axle pivot brackets, tighten the two forward (horizontal) fasteners to 88-118 Nm (65-87 lb-ft) first. Then, tighten the two rearward (vertical) bolts and nuts (at top of front crossmember) to 113-153 Nm (83-113 lb-ft).

  1. Install the front spring. Refer to Spring, Coil, in the Removal and Installation portion of this section.
