REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Exhaust Shields

Catalytic Converter Shields

Removal

  1. Raise and support the vehicle.

  1. Remove the four rear catalytic converter heat shield bolts for the rear catalytic converter heat shield.

  1. Remove the two halves of the rear catalytic converter heat shield from the vehicle.

  1. Remove the two front catalytic converter heat shield bolts and the air inlet tube bracket bolt for the front catalytic converter heat shield.

  1. Remove the front catalytic converter shield from the vehicle.

Installation

  1. NOTE: It is important that all heat shields be reinstalled correctly or heat damage to other components may occur.

    Follow the removal procedure in reverse order.

  1. Tighten all fasteners to 22-28 Nm (16-21 lb-ft).

Heat Shields, F-Super Duty with 7.3L DI Turbo Diesel Engine

Removal

  1. NOTE: The catalytic converter heat shield used on E40D equipped vehicles is welded to the catalytic converter and is not separately serviceable.

    Remove the engine charge exhaust pipe from the vehicle.

  1. Remove the five stainless steel bands attaching the engine charge exhaust pipe heat shield to the engine charge exhaust pipe.

  1. Remove the engine charge exhaust pipe heat shield from the engine charge exhaust pipe.

Installation

  1. NOTE: It is important that all heat shields be reinstalled correctly or heat damage to other components may occur.

    Follow removal procedures in reverse order.
