Flywheel Runout Check

1. Install Dial Indicator with Bracketry D78P-4201-F and Dial Indicator D78P-4201-G or equivalents so that the indicator point contacts the flywheel (6375) face. Turn the flywheel, making sure to hold it in the full forward or rearward position so that the crankshaft end play will not be indicated as flywheel runout. To check crankshaft end play, refer to Section 03-00.

2. If the flywheel clutch face runout exceeds specification, remove the flywheel and check for burrs between the flywheel and face of the crankshaft mounting flange. If no burrs exist, check the runout of the crankshaft mounting flange. If the crankshaft mounting flange runout is within 0.2mm (0.008 inch), replace or machine the flywheel. Refer to Section 03-00 or Section 03-01D. To replace flywheel, refer to Section 08-01. Machine the crankshaft flywheel mounting face sufficiently to correct the surface if the mounting flange runout exceeds the specification of 0.2mm (0.008 inch).

   
   
   
   
   

3. Check for damaged or worn ring gear teeth.
