Using a 10mm socket, remove 14 pan retaining bolts, transmission pan and pan to case gasket.

  1. Remove pan magnet. Clean transmission pan and pan magnet.

  1.  CAUTION: If installing new filter, and grommet remains in main control bore, carefully use a small screwdriver to remove it. Take care not to damage main control bore.

NOTE: If servicing for contamination-related failure, use a new filter and grommet. Filter may be reused if no excessive contamination is present.

Using both hands, remove filter by pulling downward.

  1. Disconnect transmission shift linkage at manual control lever. Disconnect harness connector at transmission range (TR) sensor.

  1. Using a 8mm socket, remove one bolt retaining manual control valve detent lever spring (7A261) to the main control valve body (7A100). Remove manual control valve detent lever spring.

  1. NOTE: For clarity, the following illustrations show the main control valve body removed. It is not necessary to remove the main control valve body for this procedure.

Remove the EPC solenoid bracket retaining bolt. Remove the EPC solenoid bracket.

  1. NOTE: Use a shop cloth to protect pan-to-case surface.

Remove manual lever shaft retaining pin (7B210).

  1. Remove manual valve detent lever inner nut using an open-end wrench while holding the manual control lever with a crescent wrench.

Slide manual control lever shaft partially out of the case (7005) to complete removal of the inner nut from manual control lever shaft.

  1. Remove manual control lever shaft nut using an open-end wrench while holding the manual control lever with a crescent wrench.

  1. Remove manual control lever.

  1. Using a 8mm socket, remove two bolts retaining transmission range (TR) sensor to case. Remove transmission range (TR) sensor from manual control lever shaft.

  1. Slide manual control lever shaft out of case.

  1. NOTE: Do not damage bore with the prying tool.

Using a screwdriver on the manual control lever seal lower edge, carefully pry manual control lever seal out of case bore.

Installation

  1. Install new manual control lever seal using Shift Lever Seal Replacer T74P-77498-A.

  1. Position manual valve detent lever (7A115) and parking lever actuating rod (7A232) into case. Parking lever actuating rod must be positioned over parking pawl (7A441).

  1. Slide manual control lever shaft into case and position through detent. Install manual valve detent lever inner nut.

  1. Tighten manual valve detent lever inner nut while holding manual control lever shaft with a crescent wrench. Tighten nut to 27-37 Nm (20-27 lb-ft).

  1. Install manual lever shaft retaining pin.

  1. Install the EPC solenoid bracket. Install bolt and tighten to 9-11 Nm (80-100 lb-in).

  1. Install TR sensor on manual control lever shaft and two shims, then loosely install bolts.

  1. NOTE: PARK is the last detent when the manual control lever is full forward. Return two detents toward output shaft (7060) for NEUTRAL.

Position manual control lever in NEUTRAL.

  1. Insert Transmission Range (TR) Sensor (MLPS) Alignment Tool T93P-70010-A into slots. Align all three slots on transmission range (TR) sensor with three tabs on tool.

  1. Tighten TR sensor bolts to 9-11 Nm (80-100 lb-in).
