Extension Housing Seal and Bushing

Removal

  1. Raise vehicle on a hoist and position suitable safety stands under vehicle.

  1. Remove rear driveshaft. Refer to Section 05-01.

  1. Remove extension housing seal using Seal Remover T74P-77248-A and Impact Slide Hammer T50T-100-A.





  1.  CAUTION: Do not damage any machined surfaces.

    Remove the extension housing bushing (7A034) using Extension Housing Bushing Remover T77L-7697-D.





Installation

  1. Inspect the counterbore of the extension housing (7A039) for burrs. If necessary, remove burrs with an oil stone.

  1. Align extension housing bushing in extension housing.





  1. Install extension housing bushing using Extension Housing Bushing Replacer T77L-7697-C.





  1. Position new extension housing seal with drain hole positioned downward.





  1. Seat extension housing seal using Extension Housing Seal Replacer T61L-7657-B.





  1. Inspect driveshaft slip yoke. Replace if damaged or worn.

  1.  CAUTION: Be careful not to nick or damage extension housing seal during driveshaft installation.

    Prior to installation, lightly coat slip yoke with High Temperature 4x4 Front Axle and Wheel Bearing Grease E8TZ-19590-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESA-M1C198-A.

  1. Install driveshaft as outlined in Section 05-01.

  1. Remove safety stands and lower vehicle.
