Section 06-09B: Brake, Anti-Lock, 4-Wheel | 1996 Bronco Workshop Manual |
The anti-lock brake system uses three variable-reluctance sensors and toothed speed sensor indicator rings to determine the rotational speed of each wheel. The sensors operate on magnetic induction principle. As the teeth on the speed indicator ring rotate past the stationary sensor, a signal proportional to the speed of the rotation is generated and sent to the anti-lock brake electronic control module through a twisted-pair wire cable and wiring harness.
Front
The front brake anti-lock sensors (2C204) are attached to the suspension knuckles, and the front brake anti-lock sensor indicators (2C182) are pressed onto the backside of the rotors.
Rear
The rear sensor is integrated into the rear axle housing.
