DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

Caliper

Heavy-Duty Rail Slider, F-Super Duty Chassis Cab and Motorhome Chassis

The disk brake caliper is of the rail slider design, with two caliper pistons on the same side of the front disc brake hub and rotor. The unit consists of a disc brake caliper, which slides on two rails.

The disc brake caliper contains two caliper pistons. The caliper pistons and cylinder bores are protected by boot seals fitted to a groove in the caliper piston housing.

BTighten to 23-34 Nm (17-25 Lb-Ft) while rotating rotor counterclockwise. Back off nut 120-180 degrees. Use torque wrench set to tighten nut to 2.03-2.26 Nm (18-20 Lb-In). End play to be 0.006-0.127mm (0.00025-0.005 Inch)
Position nut retainer 374536-S over nut so that a slot in the retainer lines up with the cotter pin hole in the spindle. The adjusting nut must not be rotated while installing retainer.
Insert cotter pin and secure by bending the legs in opposite directions around the nut retainer.

Heavy-Duty Pin Slider, F-250, F-350

The disc brake caliper is of the pin slider design, with two caliper pistons (2196) on the same side of the front disc brake hub and rotor. The unit consists of a disc brake caliper, which slides on two pins. The disc brake caliper assembly is mounted to an anchor bracket which is bolted to the front wheel spindle.

The caliper contains the two caliper pistons. The caliper piston and cylinder bores are protected by boot seals fitted to a groove in the caliper piston and a bore in the cylinder housing. The anchor bracket mounting positions the disc brake caliper rearward over the front disc brake hub and rotor.

Light-Duty Pin Slider, F-150 and Bronco

The disc brake caliper is of the pin slider design, with a single piston in the caliper housing. The brake caliper mounts over the top of the pads and is bolted to the spindle on the inboard side (the outside of the caliper is secured to the outer brake pad with the outer shoe clip). The system is designed so nearly all of the brake torque generated between the front disc brake hub and rotor (1102) and brake pads is transmitted directly to the front wheel spindle (3105) and not through the caliper housing.
