Section 04-04: Wheels and Tires | 1996 F-150, F-250, F-350, F-Super Duty Chassis Cab, F-Super Duty Motorhome Chassis and Bronco Workshop Manual |
Aluminum wheels have a protective coating to resist corrosion. Care should be taken to avoid damaging the wheel or corrosion may occur. Washing them (do not use highly alkaline cleaning agents) when washing the rest of the vehicle will be enough to keep wheels looking good for many years. Certain environments, as created by some operations, can lead to corrosion. Some of these are: livestock hauling, snow removal with salt and chloride compounds, and dust control with highly alkaline materials. If corrosion or other damage to the protective coating is found, it is NOT a recommended practice to refinish the wheel.
