DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

Air-Fuel/Exhaust Gas Flow

During operation of a turbocharged engine, exhaust gas from the engine exhaust manifold (9430) flows into the turbine. The exhaust gas pressure and the heat energy extracted from the gas cause the turbine wheel to rotate which, in turn, causes the compressor wheel to rotate.

The cooled and expanded exhaust gas leaving the turbine wheel is directed by the turbine housing to engine exhaust system, that expels it to atmosphere.

Rotation of the compressor wheel causes ambient air from the engine air cleaner to be drawn into the compressor housing, where it is compressed and delivered to appropriate ducting that delivers it to the integral air intake manifold.
