CLEANING AND INSPECTION

Coolant in Oil

Inspection

  1. Plug in block heater (6A051) to warm coolant.

  1. Drain engine oil and remove oil bypass filter (6714). Leave oil pan drain plug (6730) out of oil pan (6675).

  1. Remove engine glow plug. Refer to Section 03-07B.

  1. Remove radiator cap (8100) and install Rotunda Cooling System Pressurization Kit 021-00012 or equivalent. Refer to cooling system pressure test in this section.

  1. Pressurize cooling system to 96.5 kPa (14 psi).

  1. Inspect area around oil pump tube (6615), oil filter adapter (6881), and oil filter adapter for evidence of coolant leaks.

  1. If leak is found at oil cooler, the cooler must be removed and pressure tested for internal leaks. Repair or replace as necessary.

  1. Inspect for coolant leaks at the oil pan plug bore.

  1. If no leaks are found, remove oil pan and inspect crankcase for pressure leaks.

  1. Inspect cylinder head (6049) for coolant leaks.





  1. If coolant leak still hasn't been found, remove the engine front cover (6019). Refer to Section 03-01D. Inspect gaskets and sealing surfaces.

  1. Repair as required, retest for leaks.
