Removal
Disconnect both battery ground cables (14301).
Raise the vehicle.
Remove the bolts retaining the turbocharger exhaust inlet pipe to the exhaust manifold.
Remove the exhaust manifold bolts and exhaust manifold (9430).
Clean the exhaust manifold mating surfaces.
Check surfaces for warpage with straightedge. Refer to Specifications in this section.
Installation
Apply anti-seize compound to the exhaust manifold bolt threads.
Install exhaust manifold and retaining bolts. Tighten bolts to 61 Nm (45 lb-ft).
Install the bolts retaining the turbocharger exhaust inlet pipe to the exhaust manifold. Tighten the bolts to 49 Nm (36 lb-ft).
Lower the vehicle.
NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the powertrain control module (PCM) (12A650) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.
Connect both battery ground cables.
