Removal
Disconnect both battery ground cables (14301).
Remove the transmission fill tube bracket bolts and rotate the transmission fill tube and bracket aside.
Raise the vehicle.
Remove the two bolts retaining the turbocharger exhaust inlet pipe to the exhaust manifold (9430).
Remove the exhaust manifold bolts and exhaust manifold.
Clean the exhaust manifold mating surfaces.
Check surfaces for warpage with a straightedge. Refer to Specifications in this section.
Installation
Apply anti-seize compound to the exhaust manifold bolt threads.
Install exhaust manifold and retaining bolts.
Tighten the exhaust manifold bolts to 61 Nm (45 lb-ft).
Install the bolts retaining the turbocharger exhaust inlet pipe to the exhaust manifold. Tighten the bolts to 28 Nm (21 lb-ft).
Lower the vehicle.
Rotate the transmission fill tube bracket into original position. Install bracket bolts. Tighten the bolts to standard torque specification listed at the end of this section.
NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the powertrain control module (PCM) (12A650) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.
Connect both battery ground cables.
