REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Rocker Arm Cover, Rocker Arm and Push Rod, Left

Removal

  1. Disconnect battery ground cables (14301).

  1. Remove the intake duct tube assembly bolts and the clamps at the turbocharger and air cleaner. Remove the air inlet duct tube assembly.

  1. Remove the crankcase breather screws and the breather assembly.

  1. Remove the intake duct bracket and retaining nuts.

  1. Remove the vacuum pump hose at the vacuum pump (2A451).

  1. Remove the valve cover bolts.

  1. Remove the valve cover (6582).

  1. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the fuel injectors (9F593) and the glow plugs.

  1. Disconnect the engine harness electrical connectors from the valve cover gasket (6584).

  1. Remove the valve cover gasket.

  1. Remove the two rocker arm bolts (6A527).

  1. Remove the intake rocker arm (6564) or exhaust push rod (6565).

  1. Remove the push rod.

  1. NOTE: Be careful when removing the rocker arm snap retaining clip. Do not lose the rocker arm steel ball.

    Remove the snap retaining clip.

  1. Remove the rocker arm and steel ball from the rocker arm pedestal.

Installation

  1. Assemble the intake rocker arm or exhaust rocker arm assembly as follows:

    1. Place the steel ball in the rocker arm cup and lubricate it with clean engine oil.

    1. Place the rocker arm pedestal on the steel ball.

    1. Snap the retaining clip over the rocker arm pedestal groove.

  1. Lubricate the push rod ends with engine oil and install the push rod (copper end up).

  1.  CAUTION: Failure to follow the next step of this procedure could result in bent valves, causing severe engine damage.

    Rotate the engine until the mark on the crankshaft damper is at 11 o'clock to prevent valve damage when installing the intake rocker arm and exhaust rocker arm.

  1. Install push rods.

  1. Install the intake rocker arm or exhaust rocker arm.

  1. Install the two rocker arm bolts. Tighten rocker arm bolts evenly to 27 Nm (20 lb-ft).

  1. Install the valve cover gasket.

  1. Connect the engine harness electrical connectors to the valve cover gasket.

  1. Connect the electrical connectors to the fuel injectors and glow plugs.

  1. Install the valve cover and bolts. Tighten bolts to 11 Nm (97 lb-ft).

  1. Connect the vacuum pump hose to the vacuum pump.

  1. Install the intake duct bracket and the two retaining nuts.

  1. Install the crankcase breather assembly and the two retaining screws.

  1. Install the intake duct tube assembly, the two retaining bolts and the clamps at the turbocharger and air cleaner. Connect battery ground cable.
