REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Engine—Except F150 250 with 5.0L and E4OD Transmission

 
 

Removal

  1. Disconnect battery (10655).

  1. Drain cooling system. Refer to Section 03-03.

  1. Remove hood (16612). Refer to Section 01-02 in the Body, Chassis Manual.

  1. Remove jack handle and air intake duct.

  1. Remove radiator (8005). Refer to Section 03-03.

  1. Remove fan fan shroud (8146).

  1. Discharge A/C system. Refer to Section 12-00 in the Body, Chassis Manual.

  1. Remove serpentine belt. Refer to Section 03-05.

  1. Remove fan blade (8600).

  1. Remove upper intake manifold (9424). Refer to Intake Manifold, Upper in In-Vehicle Service portion of this section.

  1. Disconnect heater water hoses (18472) from water pump (8501).

  1. Remove retaining bolt and water pump heater brackets from generator (GEN) (10300).

  1. Disconnect electrical connectors from generator.

  1. Disconnect two hoses from air pump.

  1. Disconnect vacuum lines.

  1. Relieve fuel pressure. Refer to Section 03-04B.

  1. Remove retaining bolts for generator and air pump brackets.

  1. Disconnect ground cables from engine block.

  1. Disconnect electrical connectors from A/C.

  1. Disconnect A/C manifold lines from A/C compressor (19703).

  1. Disconnect power steering hoses from power steering pump (3A674).

  1. Remove A/C and power steering bracket.

  1. Disconnect electrical block from left fender.

  1. Disconnect fuel lines.

  1. Raise vehicle on hoist and remove starter motor (11001). Refer to Section 03-06A.

  1. Remove exhaust manifold-to-exhaust pipe nuts.

  1. For manual transmissions, remove clutch housing-to-engine bolts or for automatic transmissions, remove torque converter housing-to-engine bolts.

  1. Remove motor mount nuts.

  1. Lower vehicle.

  1. Install lifting eyes.

  1. Using suitable lifting device, remove engine (6007) from vehicle.

  1. Mount engine on suitable bench or stand.

 

Installation

  1. Follow removal procedure in reverse order. Tighten clutch housing-to-engine bolts for manual transmissions or torque converter housing-to-engine bolts for automatic transmissions to 55-67 Nm (40-50 lb-ft). Tighten fan shroud bolts to 7-10 Nm (62-89 lb-in). Tighten exhaust manifold-to-exhaust inlet pipe nuts to 35-45 Nm (26-36 lb-ft). Tighten engine mount nuts to 73-100 Nm (54-74 lb-ft). To install starter motor, refer to Section 03-06A.

  1. Refill cooling system. Refer to Section 03-03.

  1. NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the powertrain control module (PCM) (12A650) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.

    Reconnect battery.
