A needle roller bearing and adapter assembly is used as a pilot bearing on F-150, F-250, and F-350 vehicles. It is inserted directly into the crankshaft. The bearing and adapter assembly cannot be serviced separately. The pilot bearing can only be installed with the seal end of the bearing facing the transmission (7003). The pilot bearing is pregreased and does not require additional lubrication. A new pilot bearing must be installed whenever a transmission input bearing is removed. For additional information, refer to Section 08-01.
Removal
Remove the transmission, clutch pressure plate (7563), and clutch disc (7550). Refer to Section 08-01 and to the appropriate transmission section in Group 07.
Using Impact Slide Hammer T59L-100-B and Puller T58L-101-B, remove the pilot bearing.
Installation
Using Pilot Bearing Replacer T74P-7137-A and Clutch Aligner T74P-7137-H, install the pilot bearing with the seal facing the transmission so that the adapter is not misaligned.
CAUTION: Care must be taken not to damage the pilot bearing while the transmission input shaft is being inserted into the pilot bearing during transmission installation.
Install the clutch pressure plate, clutch disc, and transmission. Refer to Section 08-01.
