The camshaft (6250), which operates the engine valves:
Is supported by four bearings pressed into the cylinder block.
Has end play controlled by a camshaft thrust plate (6269) behind the camshaft timing gear. The camshaft thrust plate bolts to the front of the cylinder block (6010).
Is driven by two helical-cut timing gears. The crankshaft timing gear is steel; the camshaft gear is phenolic resin.
