REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Emblems

Removal

  1. Clean the sheet metal area around the emblem thoroughly using isopropyl alcohol and a clean soft cloth.

  1. Mark the emblem location on top and at each end (using masking tape) prior to emblem removal.

  1.  CAUTION: Use care while removing emblem to prevent damage to paint or sheet metal surface.

NOTE: Do not heat the emblem or sheet metal as this will increase adhesion and make removal difficult. Cold temperatures of 0°C (32°F) and below make it easier to remove the emblem.

Using a nylon wedge, remove emblem by positioning wedge between the emblem and the sheet metal surface. Pull the emblem away with steady tension.

  1. Once the edge of the emblem is free, grip it and slowly pull the edge toward the front of the vehicle.

  1. Grip the tape at one end, slowly lifting and pulling away approximately 12.7mm (1/2 inch) at a time. Small pieces can be removed by rolling with your thumb across the sheet metal surface.

  1. NOTE: Not all of the adhesive tape will come off with the moulding.

Remove the tape from the metal surface using 3M Scotch-Brite® Moulding Adhesive and Stripe Removal Disc, 3M Part No. 07501 or 07502.

Installation

  1. NOTE: Emblems should not be installed on vehicles unless sheet metal surface temperatures exceed 27°C (80°F) minimum.

When all tape is removed, wipe area with isopropyl alcohol and a clean soft cloth. Make sure that all tape residue and road dirt is removed. Use soap and water to finish cleaning the surface prior to installing the tape or moulding.

  1. If paint surface is damaged during emblem removal, repair as required.

  1. Apply the new emblem by pulling back adhesive tape protective cover about three to four inches at the tape surface.

  1. Align the new emblem with the masking tape, applied during the removal procedure, and gently press. Remove the protective cover as you proceed forward.

  1. Make sure the emblem is lined up correctly. The emblem cannot be removed once the tape adheres.

  1. Remove the masking tape and wipe the area under the masking tape with isopropyl alcohol to remove residue.
