Removal

1. Unlatch tailgate latch release handle (431C62) and lower tailgate. Disconnect left and right tailgate check cables (43052) at tailgate.

2. Disconnect tailgate window motor wire at connector. Pull lead wire from tailgate body rail.

3. Support tailgate while slightly open. Remove the tailgate counterbalance torsion bar body retainer from body.

4. Remove three nuts securing left and right tailgate hinges to body.

5. Remove tailgate from vehicle.

Installation

1. Follow the removal procedure in reverse order. Tighten the tailgate hinge-to-body nuts to 28-40 Nm (21-30 lb-ft). Tighten the tailgate counterbalance torsion bar body retainer bolts to 28-40 Nm (21-30 lb-ft). Tighten the tailgate check cable bolts to 28-40 Nm (21-30 lb-ft).
