MAINTENANCE

Maintenance Information

The maintenance recommendations are included in this section for reference. The emission systems scheduled maintenance services are shown in bold type. Be sure to perform all maintenance services.

Maintenance service adjustments must conform to specifications contained in the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis Manual OBDI or OBDII, in the Truck Performance Specifications issue of the Technical Service Bulletin, or shown on the vehicle emission control information (VECI) decal which is located on or near the engine, or the emission systems may become inoperative.

Whenever a high-tension ignition wire is removed from a spark plug, the distributor cap, or the coil to perform a maintenance operation, Silicone Dielectric Compound (WA-10) D7AZ-19A331-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESE-M1C171-A must be applied to the boot before reconnection. Using a small clean screwdriver, apply a thin layer of Silicone Dielectric Compound on the entire interior surface of the boot.

As a safety precaution, before starting the engine to perform maintenance, make sure the transmission selector is in park (automatic transmission) or neutral (manual transmission), the parking brake set and the wheels blocked.
